Porsche Taycan Shatters Guinness World Record for Longest Ice Drift

Porsche Taycan Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Drift on Ice

The Porsche Taycan has once again demonstrated its exceptional performance capabilities by securing a new Guinness World Record. The electric sports car set the record for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice, covering an impressive 17.503 kilometers in controlled oversteer.

Taycan’s Record-Breaking Drift

In extreme Arctic conditions, Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter took the wheel of a Taycan GTS on an ice track in Levi, Finland. The record-breaking attempt, which took place on January 14, 2025, was far from easy. The deteriorating ice surface forced the team to abandon the first attempt after 11 kilometers. However, adapting to the conditions, the team switched to shorter spikes, and as temperatures dropped, Richter successfully completed 132 laps within 46 minutes.

With only precise throttle and steering inputs, the Taycan GTS maintained a seamless drift, surpassing the previous record of 14.809 kilometers. This achievement marks the fourth Guinness World Records title for the Porsche Taycan, reinforcing its dominance in the electric performance category.

Mastering the Elements

The record attempt took place at the Porsche Arctic Center, located approximately 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The ice track was specifically prepared with a 59-meter drift circle, and the Taycan GTS was fitted with commercially available Michelin tires featuring one-millimeter spikes for optimal grip. The vehicle was also equipped with a professional GPS measuring system to ensure precise tracking of distance, steering, and acceleration.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville was present to verify the attempt and later presented the official record certificate to Jens Richter and Christian Lehwald, Managing Director of the Porsche Arctic Center and Head of Porsche Experience and New Platforms at Porsche AG.

Porsche’s Pursuit of Performance Excellence

Porsche’s continuous pursuit of excellence has led the Taycan to claim multiple world records. In addition to this latest achievement, the electric sports car holds three other Guinness World Records titles:

2023: The Taycan Cross Turismo conquered the Xinjiang-Tibet route, achieving the greatest altitude change by an electric car at 5,573 meters

2021: Racing driver Leh Keen set the record for the fastest speed driven inside a building, reaching 165.1 km/h in a Porsche Taycan in New Orleans, Louisiana.

2020: Porsche Experience instructor Dennis Retera completed 210 laps in a Taycan at the Hockenheimring, covering 42.171 kilometers in a continuous drift.

A Testament to Precision Engineering

The success of the Taycan GTS in extreme conditions underscores Porsche’s commitment to innovation and performance. The vehicle’s exceptional chassis balance and advanced drivetrain technology allow it to be controlled effortlessly, even on ice.

“Our experiential marketing approach involves pushing boundaries and testing our vehicles in extraordinary conditions,” said Christian Lehwald. “The Porsche Arctic Center provides an ideal environment to showcase the Taycan’s capabilities, and this record reinforces our confidence in its performance.”

With this latest record, Porsche continues to set new benchmarks in the world of electric sports cars, proving that high performance and sustainability can go hand in hand. The Taycan remains at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation, and its latest Guinness World Record is yet another milestone in its legacy of excellence.
